DosBox-X makes Windows XP PC a "real" retro one!

From Windows 1.0 up to Windows 3.11, you can typically run Windows directly from the integrated DOS provided by DOSBox-X. Instructions can be found below for the different major versions.

At the time of writing this article, running Windows XP isn’t officially supported by the DOSBox-X project. Don’t blame the developers for any issues - this is very experimental.

The floppy-based install will not work with NT, because DOSBox-X does not yet emulate the floppy controller. NOTE: The installer goes as far as copying some base files, then appears to hang, or spit out a spurious error message.
